Cabinet Votes

Senator Toomey,
I strongly urge you to vote against the President’s cabinet picks. There’s plenty else to address, so I’ll be brief.

Rex Tillerson has no government experience and compromising involvement with Russia. His confirmation would double down on the GOP statement that conflicts of interest hold no sway.

Steve Mnuchin also has no government experience and represents a betrayal of the President’s pledge to rid government of Wall Street influence. His confirmation would be approval of his vicious foreclosure spree.

Senator Jeff Sessions carries a long history of racist associations. His confirmation will only the further the rise in politically and racially motivated voter suppression since certain protections were stripped from the Voting Rights Act.

Representative Tom Price supports the destruction of the Medicare system many Americans depend on. His confirmation would cause hardship for many thousands of Pennsylvanians.

Dr. Ben Carson has no government experience and little knowledge of housing policy. His confirmation would be pure cronyism.

Governor Rick Perry is another man nominated for his support of the President’s campaign. His confirmation would threaten the global climate and our nuclear security.

Andrew Puzder has no government experience whose policies would only widen the monumental wealth gap. His nomination would be an abandonment of American workers and worker protections.

Betsy DeVos has no government or teaching experience and has demonstrated a lack a familiarity with federal education laws. Her confirmation would be acceptance of her family’s bribe.

Representative Ryan Zinke has a strange record on global warming. His confirmation would be a denial of vast quantities of climate data.

Wilbur Ross has no government experience and again represents the very corporate interests we were supposed to be rid of. His confirmation is a rejection of workplace protections that might have save the workers who died at his mine.

Governor Sonny Perdue has been involved in cronyism. His confirmation would raise more concerns of conflicts of interest about a White House already full of them.

Dr. David Shulkin and Elaine Chao are good picks.

In addition to individual concerns, this proposed cabinet is less diverse than any in the past 30 years. Many Americans have voiced concern that the Trump presidency will not work on behalf of our diverse country, and a cabinet so lacking in diversity is confirmation of this fear.

Please vote against these cabinet appointments and participate in an ethical government that appreciates the importance of representation of the people of this nation.
Thank you.
